Policy And Planning Community Efforts
The Office of Policy and Planning engages in a variety of community outreach activities. In addition to serving on the boards of a number of organizations, staff lends expertise to the community in a number of different areas. These efforts include:
Legacy 2000, a health fair and outreach effort to inform African American men about health;
Maryland Statewide Health Network, ppromoting the prevention and control of cancer and tobacco-related diseases and increased participation in clinical trials;
sponsorship of the Baltimore Ministerial Alliance Against Cancer Breakfast;
Md. Special Population Cancer Research Network, working to reduce cancer morbidity and mortality in Maryland's underserved communities;
Maryland Rural Health Association, an organization that advocates for optimal health for rural residents.
The Office of Policy and Planning was also instrumental in the passage of a bill that allows uninsured and underinsured women to receive screening, diagnosis and treatment for breast cancer. They are the sponsors of the Center for Excellence in Women's Health and direct the community outreach team for this grant.
